Invisalign® Clear Aligners

The Clear Alternative to Braces®

Are your teeth slightly crooked, crowded or misaligned? You could correct these orthodontic problems without having to wear braces when you talk to our Wentworthville dentists about Invisalign treatments.

The Invisalign system uses a series of clear, plastic aligners that fit over the teeth like a mouthguard. These are difficult to spot in the mouth and can be removed when eating and cleaning your teeth, making them a more discreet and convenient alternative to metal braces.

We offer Invisalign treatments for adults and older teens at our Wentworthville dental clinic. To find out more about Invisalign aligners and whether they're an option for you, schedule an initial consultation at The Kingsway Family Dental today. Call (02) 9631 8594 or book a consultation online.

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign aligners are a popular alternative to braces that have helped more than 5.5 million people to straighten their smiles. Like braces, they apply gentle forces to move teeth into their ideal position. As well as improving the appearance of smiles, straightening teeth can also lower the risk of oral health problems and dental injuries.

Made from transparent plastic, Invisalign aligners ae virtually invisible when worn, making them well suited to people who don't want to draw attention to their orthodontic treatment. They're also designed to be comfortable to wear and are more convenient than a fixed brace.

What conditions can Invisalign aligners treat?

Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign treatment. While the aligners can treat most mild to moderate orthodontic issues, more severe bite problems (malocclusion) may need to be treated with traditional braces or another treatment. Following are some of the common issues Invisalign aligners can often treat.

Crowded teeth

If there isn't enough space for your teeth to develop normally, they can overlap and push each other out of alignment, causing a crooked smile. This can increase your risk of problems such as tooth decay and gum disease by making it harder to brush and floss and trapping food and plaque between your teeth.

If your upper front teeth extend too far over your lower teeth, this can lead to teeth wearing down faster or jaw problems such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. If your teeth protrude, this can put them at greater risk of injury.

If your lower front teeth are in front of your upper front teeth when you close your mouth, this means the lower jaw is pushed too far forwards and can affect eating or speech. Invisalign aligners can correct some underbites, but more serious problems may need other treatments.

If only some of your lower teeth overlap your upper teeth, this could lead to problems such as teeth getting chipped or worn, receding gums and even bone loss. Invisalign aligners can treat some types of crossbite, depending on how severe it is.

Open bite

If your teeth don't touch when you close your mouth, this can affect your ability to chew and eat certain foods, which could mean you don't get the nutrition you need. Invisalign aligners can help to bring your teeth together.

Spaces between teeth can affect your appearance and trap food and plaque, increasing your risk of tooth decay and gum problems. Aligners can close these gaps.

Why choose Invisalign treatment?

If you want to straighten your smile or correct a bad bite, Invisalign aligners have a number of benefits over conventional brace treatments.

More discreet

The clear plastic aligners are less noticeable on the teeth than metal brackets and wires, whether you're talking to someone or having a photo taken.

More comfortable

Invisalign technology applies gentler forces to teeth than metal braces. Made from proprietary SmartTrack® material, aligners are also less likely to irritate or injure the gums, lips and other soft tissues.

Unlike fixed braces that are attached to the teeth by a dentist, Invisalign can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing your teeth and other reasons.

Lower oral health risks

You can brush and floss your teeth as normal when removing your Invisalign aligners to keep plaque at bay. This avoids the risks of brushing and flossing with braces, which can trap food and bacteria or make some parts of the mouth hard to reach.

Clearer outcomes

Invisalign ClinCheck® software allows our dentists to map out your whole treatment in advance. We can show you 3D visualisations of what your new smile should look like at every stage, provided you wear your aligners as instructed and avoid problems.

Fewer appointments

Depending on your orthodontic needs, you may not have to visit our Wentworthville dental clinic as often for Invisalign check-ups as you would have to with traditional braces. We'll supply you with several sets of aligners to wear until your next visit.

How does the Invisalign process work?

We offer several types of Invisalign treatment at our Wentworthville clinic for adults and older teenagers. We'll recommend the most effective option for you or your child, giving you all the information you need to make an informed decision. All Invisalign treatments follow the same basic process.

1. Developing your treatment plan

If you decide that Invisalign treatment is right for you, we'll take digital images of your teeth using proprietary software to create a 3D map of your mouth, without the need for physical impressions. We'll use these 3D scans to design your personal treatment plan over as many weeks as needed. We can also show you what your smile should look like at the end.

2. Making your aligners

When you're happy with your treatment plan, we'll send the details to an Invisalign laboratory where your custom aligners will be manufactured. Each set of aligners is trimmed and inspected to make sure it meets quality standards before being sent to our clinic.

3. Check and fit

On your next visit, we'll check that your aligners fit comfortably and instruct you on how to use them for the best results. You should wear the aligners for at least 20 hours every day for the best chance of success from your orthodontic treatment.

4. Regular appointments

During your treatment, we'll schedule regular visits to our clinic so our dentists can make sure your treatment is on track, provide you with your next few sets of aligners and answer any questions you have.

Getting used to your aligners

Invisalign aligners generally take less time to adjust to than braces, but it can still take a few days to get used to how they feel in your mouth. You should remove the aligners when eating and cleaning your teeth.

How do I care for the aligners?

You should clean your aligners thoroughly at least once a day, either with water or using the cleaning system we provide. You can use a toothbrush to make sure you remove all bacteria and leftover food from between the gaps, but don't use toothpaste. When you're not wearing the aligners, they should be stored in their case.

How long does the treatment take?

We'll give you an estimate of your treatment time after we scan your mouth and develop your personal treatment plan. The average time it takes to move teeth or jaws into their new positions is 12 to 18 months, but this can vary. You should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day to help you stay on track, replacing the aligners around every two weeks as instructed.

What are the risks?

Invisalign is a safe treatment that has a high success rate based on patient compliance. If you don't wear your aligners as often as recommended, or your treatment is interrupted by an oral health problem, this can extend your treatment time and affect the outcome.

It's normal to feel some discomfort when you wear a new aligner for the first time, but this should fade before long. If you continue to feel pain or discomfort, or notice other unexpected symptoms, contact our dentists to schedule an urgent check-up.

What does Invisalign treatment cost?

We can give you a quote for Invisalign cost after we develop your treatment plan. This will depend on how many aligners you need, the type of Invisalign system you choose and other factors.

We offer a range of finance options to help you manage your payments. We also accept all health funds, if you have insurance that covers orthodontic costs.

What are my other options for straightening teeth?

If Invisalign treatment isn't the right choice for you, our Wentworthville dentists can discuss other options, depending on what you want to achieve. This could include orthodontics using traditional braces or a treatment such as cosmetic veneers or crowns to straighten individual teeth.
